Congratulations MSD. This moment belongs to you and your deeds have made us proud. But the way media has splashed the fact saying that MSD has surpassed Sourav Ganguly is not the news point. It is a fact that records are made to be broken. We all remember how Gavaskar had conquered Don's Ton record and how Sachin created new heights in batting!
It is a wonderful thing that the SUCCESS SHOW is continuing. If we were good, today we are better. But we should not be critical of the past that taught us the fact: Together We can.
Ganguly, Sachin, Dravid, VVS, Kumble together pulled Indian cricket out of the woods and we would NEVER want to remember the dark days of the nineties, when we were in the pits. The match-fixing allegations etc.
Ganguly took charge at a time when Indian cricket was going through the Darkest Hour. Together, he collated the boys and stood behind them and we grew from strength to strength. We even reached the final of the World Cup in 2003. We may not have won the tournament, but then we were pitted against the Mighty Aussies, led by the Great Ponting and followed by McGrath, Hayden and Symonds.
That was when we started believing in our talent and togetherness. It will be unfair if we forget the Natwest Series and the subsequent win, following which Ganguly's T-shirt show on the famed Lord's balcony.
We reached from strength to strength and achieved new heights.
Good to see that the boys have not only maintained the "Goodness" but have got better.
The media must appreciate the fact and not compare or pit one great against the other.
That India bundled and humbled Aussies is the biggest feat for us. That's the news point. We should be proud of this and not go to town saying that one captain has humbled the other. Are we fighting ourselves or do we need to celebrate the fact that we crushed the Aussies.
Only those who have seen the 2003 team and remember how Ponting had hit a one-handed six in the final, know what we went through in the final!!
It is true that the Aussies have come down several notches, but a win is a win, after all.
But finally, we must remember, honour and salute those who laid the foundation. We must acknowledge those who taught us to change our body language and get more aggressive. We must not forget those or undermine those who showed the world that if in the 1999 World Cup we were down and out, in 2003 we reached the final. The biggest thing that Ganguly and his team did for Indian Cricket was to make us belief in ourselves. Today, we have consolidated that feeling...
