Himmatwala proudly announces, "The 80s are back!" Uhhh...why is that a good thing? I mean, sure if it made me into a child again, it'd have been a different thing. What it really means is the movies from the 80s are back - a sore reminder of my early experiences of cinema. Thank goodness for some films from the 70s. Many are amused now, when they see films from the 80s, those from my generation are nostalgic. But, even as a child I didn't like most of them, so a remake of anything called Himmatwala, Justice Choudhury, Tohfa just gives me shudders.
I know, I know not all the Hindi films from the 80s were that bad, but Himmatwala isn't from that category. And if its marketing USP is that it is a Sajid Khan "entertainer" even less so.
To top it off, you have Ajay Devgn point out in the film, that it is the 80s. Right, it's supposed to be funny. But, how? Why would one say retro thing about current times. The film is set in the 80s, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, don't go about using your brain, you say. I'll try is all I say.
To make it worse, very little attempt is made to create originial music. If there is anything worse than this sort of films from the 80s, it is music from this sort of films. And I'm glad at least some of the music reviews didn't think the music was 'great'.
