Why can't observers play it late, like batsmen, for a change? So, I'm talking about Virender Sehwag's sacking now!

His exclusion, per se, is not problematic. After all, as yours truly found out, playing table tennis with specs is not easy if you are not used to it. So, the world lost out on third-rate version of Jan Ove Waldner!! But it's not easy to back Shikhar Dhawan's inclusion. Will he be a better bet than Sehwag on the South Africa tour? Yes, if luck favours him. But then, if the luck favours Viru, he can be far more destructive.

Assuming that Sehwag won't succeed as an opener on South African tracks, a better idea would be to find a young, promising opener in domestic cricket and play him in the New Delhi Test. Or even more radical: ask Tendulkar to open (also in SA) and play Sehwag in the middle order. After all, he scored Test hundred on debut at Bleomfontien was in the middle order only.

But then, who will tell Tendulkar to open? There are no Kumbles in the team think tank who managed to tell him to quit MI captaincy.

Dale Steyn vs Tendulkar first ball of a Test match. What an engrossing thought!

But wait, Tendulkar's retirement after the Oz series can't be totally ruled out yet.

The sacking of four Australians from the Mohali Test team over homework and other attitude issues is  legendary entertainment.

A query to coach Micky Arthur: If Pattinson is availble for the fourth Test, shall we assume that he has completed the backlog of his homework?

Cricket coaching is the most over-rated job in the world if the captain of the team is good. Though Michael Clarke is a gutsy captain, he still managed to lose the second Test without losing 20 wickets. He declared nine wickets down in the first innings, giving his bowlers a greater chance to attack Indian openers.

However, his ability to judge pros and cons was not at its sharpest when it came to taking action against four 'offenders'.

Talking of sharp shooters, Lionel Messi can give professional criminals a run for their money. His two goals against AC Milan were denture-dropping. It was high-class drilling which was purely thrilling.

When the best players are at their best, they are hazardous to admiration company. For, the breathing can't remain normal. Exhale!!

Another genius will showcase his skill in London from Friday, albeit in a noise-barred environ. That's Magnus Carlsen of Norway trying to qualify for the World chess championship match against V Anand.

If he doesn't qualify, it will be a pity. The chess world has already been denied of games between Karpov and Fischer, and Kasparov and Fischer.

Thankfully, Anand and Carlsen have at least played against each other. The match for the World crown will be a fitting finale.
