Here is a copy of the speech delivered today as originally planned, but changed at the last minute, for reasons of price of onions had come down and people could cry. Salt is very expensive now, please use fish.
"All my sponsors, settle down let me talk, I'll get more and more endorsements. (The crowd does berserk out there.)
My life between 100s of endorsements in the 24 years, it's hard to believe that it's coming to an end. I would like to thank all the people who have helped me in my life to get here. I have a list in my hand, please forgive me if I miss out on a few names.
First, Home Trade, they vanished in 1999. They were very key for my career. they gave me freedom, chase your dreams and don't worry about others. They also told me human beings have a short memory.
Boost, you now know the secret of such a naughty guy like me. In my school days, I used to wear Action as my school was far away. Then I switched to Adidas. My eldest brother, he used to tell me, I know you'd do everything right and I have the confidence in you, never mind the shoes. My sister, she taught me how to tie laces, but I never learnt. She continues to try to teach me but I never learn.
MRF, I don't know what do I talk about them, after World Cup, people from my Country, they were asking me, what do they make? This tired me a lot. And my life changed. Even last night, they called me and we were discussing which tyres for next duty free car. Various things we agreed upon, soft tyres for monsoons, tubeless for new hairstyle. I have had a lot of chat with Michael Shoe. If I had not done that, I would have been a lesser driver.
The most important one in 1991, I met Airtel. I know she was a telephone. When we decided to make it mobile, she said, you continue with your cricket and I'll take care of the SMS. Without that I think I couldn't have played so much cricket. Thank you for all that you've done and it is the best partnership I've had in my life, so many SMS at premium rates, ay-la!
Then Coke & Pepsi are two precious diamonds in my life. Diabetes in India has gone up from 4% to 35%, time has flown by. I wasn't able to be with them for the pesticides, cancer rumours and stuff. Thanks for understanding all that, both of you have been so special to me. I've not spent enough time with you but I promise you the rest is for you.
(Pauses to drink fresh mausambi juice)
Toshiba and Canon, like my in-laws, have been supporting. I discuss various things with them, we have many in-camera sessions, and thank you for allowing me to use other lens, like Zeiss. There have been a lot of friends who have supported me. Leaving their work and coming to take photos of me when I called them.
I thought my career was over when I was injured, but County from Britannia called even at 3 AM (Daylight Saving, Cheap Rate, no) and made me believe that it was not over. My career started after I ate biscuits and my brother took me to Ballard Pier and that is the best to have happened to me. Sir would be taking me in his Fiat all over Mumbai to ensure that I get enough match practice but it would break down so I got a duty-free Ferrari instead. On a lighter note, it could not fit my cricket gear so I got two, so I don't get complacent.
My endorsements started right here at this ground. The dream was obviously to endorse every brand in India. BCCI was fantastic, everybody believed they are India! Thanks for the support and the freedom, without that this couldn't have happened. I have endorsed competing brands and played with them, thanks to everyone for helping me out. I see all my brands in the corporate boxes, wait, I will come, please have the cheques signed and ready? It is going to be difficult without that dressing room, sharing those special moments, away from the eyes of taxman.
So, when G-Hanz gave me a sponsorship, I just said, we are all proud we don't know what you do! But I believe that you guys will take care of the TDS and Service Tax in the right spirit to the best of your abilities. I believe in you and all the best for your future. Thanks to all the accountants, consultants, without your special efforts, my bank balance couldn't have been fit. I don't know how you all kept my books in good shape, so it is OK, now I go to Deh-Lee so often.
My dear friend, late fountain pen, my first signing pen. Without him I couldn't have achieved all this. All those sponsorship deals etc.. thanks for your support. I miss you. Now it is Reynolds ball pen.
Thank you to all of you, all those photographers. Those moments will remain with me for the career. Like BPL-Sanyo, did they make camera also? Never mind, I can't see them anymore, goodbye.
I thank all the sponsors who supported me a lot. Whether the ads scored 0 or a 100. I've met a lot of people who does all sorts of things for me, thank you for all that you've done. Especially, "Ravi Shastri Hai Hai", ay la, sorry, wrong speech again. But anyways, that will be ringing in my ears till I breath. Thank you very much. I am sorry if I have missed out on anything. Good bye. And over to Hai Hai.
