Tea is undoubtedly the flavor of the month. Seasoned tea boys are getting more support than ever before, thanks to recent turn of events in New Delhi. The voter needs to think which tea does he prefer, does he prefer, the one whose offer is plen'tea' or the one whose offer is scan'tea' or the one whose offer is destructive'tea'. As I brew a hot cup of tea, the scenes playing out from Delhi are rather unbelievable. This is seriously not what the Delhi voter wanted to see. A mockery being made of the laws of the land,a Chief Minister who sleeps on the road in the name of dharna and proudly declares himself to be an anarchist. Yes, the ways of AAP have come as a major disappointment to those who believed in their cause. AAP have lost respect as quickly as they gained it and they are well and truly on a self-destruction mode. Every time they do something, they are setting their own tails on fire and reaffirming a jaded voter's viewpoint that a precious vote has indeed been wasted. And wonder of wonders, the turn around has happened all so quickly. Until two weeks ago, many (including myself) thought that AAP would be a serious contender to the duopoly state of affairs. Likely not, certainly not the way they are heading. Call it inexperience, immaturity, over enthusiasm, fizzled logic, whatever, but this is certainly not the way those in governance ought to be behaving. The AAP in one clean strike have shown they are incapable of governance, they are incapable of handling responsibility, and they are incapable of working even as a team for that matter. If their antics in Delhi are really to catapult themselves into the Lok Sabha scene, then it is most shameful. Kejriwal has not proven in any way he is a reformer or a revolutionist, instead he has amply proven that he is an inciter and a propagandist and much to everyone's utter dismay.
Sitting back and watching AAP go on a self-destruction mode are so-called seasoned politicians belonging to other parties, they probably wear a smirk on their faces and are singing in chorus "I told you so". This is certainly not what the common man thought he would have to listen to and oh, so quickly. The intellectuals who joined the AAP bandwagon are probably rubbing their eyes in absolute disbelief. Then there is a party that supports AAP and yet does not support AAP and is in a state of utter confusion about its next move. If they are going to do anything about it sooner rather than later is yet to be seen. Yes, AAP may have a point about the decay that festers the system within which the Delhi police operates, but, seriously, there needs to be a sensible way of handling the rot. AAP need to realize they are not activists any more; they need to be naturally seen as the upholders of the law, not disrupters of it. They must be kidding themselves if they seriously think they are still the voice of the common man. Even more worrying is when the party seriously believes that they are following the footsteps of the Mahatma. For starters, somebody needs to tell them that the Police force they are fighting against are not British or foreign in any way, unless Kejriwal has a counterpoint that the Police are serving the 'Queen'. And even for arguments sake if they are, will Kejriwal be able to achieve anything with this 'tamasha' that he is orchestrating? The party's new enterant and journalist Ashutosh believes that the Delhi Police are not protecting the women of Delhi, but AAP are guilty of mistreating Ugandan women themselves. Two wrongs do not make a right, we know that and yet AAP could have handled things a lot differently in their juvenile effort to revamp the system. AAP have been given an opportunity of a lifetime, instead they have squandered it. And if they have purposely and not purposefully squandered their opportunity, they have cheated their supporters, they have cheated their voters.
Prominent TOI blogger Mr. Rajesh Kalra commented on Twitter about his more recent blog- "It is actually written with sadness, for I want the issues he is raising to be addressed." I echo Mr. Kalra's thoughts here. AAP was given an opportunity to address burning issues, instead they seem to now be burying them entirely. RIP burning issues of this country, I await the one who will dauntlessly dig you out. My tea grows cold as I continue to watch the scenes from New Delhi, Metros disrupted, police caning, people injured, sirens blaring. I am most disturbed and disappointed, many more are too. I am certainly not enjoying this cold cup of destructive'tea'.
