In which we continue from http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Dehati-Aadmi/entry/adarsh-mumbai-or-why-size-is-not-everything where we went through the first list of fascinating reasons and responses on why apartments in Adarsh were so sought after.

Also, some of the benami transaction bits, which have a separate life of their own.

56.70 - Shri Ram Chandra Thakur, Secretary, Adarsh CHS affirms that "I submitted the application in the year 2002 and then back-dated it showing the date as 1-2-1996. I had back-dated the application with the object of showing that I was a member on 1-1-1996". (retro is in!)

56.74 - Lt. Col. A.P. Singh (previously Captain) "has paid Rs 79,61, 685.31 towards the price of the flat", "by taking a loan of Rs 79,61,000/- from Ms. Priyanka Lakadawala, nee Priyanka Kaul, his Rakhi sister - Ms. Priyanka is also the daughter of Major General (retd.) T.K. Kaul. Read along with 61.6, Lt. Col. A.P. Singh was working under her father from 2003-2005.  His (A.P. Singh's) evidence shows that upon coming to know of the CHS, he did not even visit the site of the society. In 61.8, the Commission states that "Lt. Col. Arun Pratap Singh is only a benamidar, Mrs. Priyanka Lakadawala (Kaul) being the real owner". And now we visit 56.83, Maj. General (retd.) T.K. Kaul, who was GOC Maharashtra, Gujarat & Goa, Nov 2002-July 2005. No surprises, he has an apartment too, which would have cost about 80 lakhs, but for which he paid the CHS a sum exceeding 1.58 crores, about double the price. In addition, he has not taken any sort of loan, and he does not appear to have any sort of grievance for having made a double payment either. (It is clear as day to anybody reading the full report that the good General has probably managed 3 apartments for himself, either that, or his maths must have been terrible. In addition, th term "sugar daddy" can now be replaced by the more relevant term "Rakhi Jarnail vale PaPa" when applied to uniformed people like Kaul, T.K., Esq..)

57.1 - Shri Aditya Bhagat Patil - was 18 years old when he applied, occupation mentioned as business, and monthly income shown as Rs 10,000/-. He paid an amount of rs 61,61,623/- for the flat. There is documentation showing loans of about 15 lakhs from family members. (It is great to be young in Mumbai, yes. Yeh jawani hai diwani, etc.etc)

57.4 - Shri Amarsingh Waghmare, Assistant Supervisor, Container Corporation of India ltd., Nagpur, has a friend Shri Anil Kumar Thakur, who is nephew of Shri R.C. Thakur (56.70), and therefore he made an application for a flat but forgot to write date and place. His monthyl income was Rs 16,025/-. So far, he has paid Rs 85,50,000/- to the CHS, in October 2010, though the price of his apartment was estimated to be be about Rs 60 lakks.  As for where he got the money from, he said that in October 2010, his tenant, Shrimati Irawati Kishore Parkar, paid him Rs 90 lakhs as security deposit. (Again, more maths problems, and Mrs. Parkar pays 1000/- rupees per month as "licence fees".)

57.8 - Shri Vishal Kishore Kedari, vegetable vendor, Khadki, Pune, made an application in October 2007, where he said his monthly income was Rs 16,000/- per month, he does not have a shop, but he sells vegetables by the side of the road. In November 2008, he was asked to pay about Rs 60 lakhs for a 2BHK flat, for which he took loans totalling 63.5 lakhs from various people including Shri Sevak Nayyar, to whom he then morgaged the said flat. (I guess this must be organic vegetable business, doing well?)

56.76 - Shri KanhaiyaLal Gidwani, ex-MLC and Jt. Secy, Adarsh CHS, "appears to be a very resourceful man". This gentleman, sadly, passed away in November 2012. His role appears to have been fairly important. (No comments needed if you read up on his composite role)

56.79 - Brig. Tara Kant Sinha, was working as Col (Q) M&G Area, he had an opportunity to deal with the file in question, and while he has paid about 87.5 lakhs, and took possession, he has not occupied the flat. (Another philanthropist?)

# One reader asked me why I am writing this, do I have a bone to pick against the Armed Forces, my answer is "No", I owe everything in my life to the Indian Armed Forces, but also that if you read the report, increasingly it becomes clear as day that this scam involves all segments of society. not just the Armed Forces.

And some of the more hilarious and/or idiotic reasons for wanting an apartment here are yet to come.
