That the jugad politics of Mr Do Nothing will succeed so well in the first go was not even dreamt by him. The strategists who are working so meticulously and relentlessly to change the destiny of a billion people got distracted by just fifteen stone pelters and every one, whoever was any where, converged to respond to them. I heard the 8.45pm prime time news bulletin of the All India Radio last evening. It was unbelievable to see that the very first five minutes, the usual slot for the main national news, that is considered to be the most important event on the national radar, was about Mr Do Nothing. His views, his voice, his opponents statements, stone pelting and an 'arrest' that was not an arrest and all that. I wondered has India shrunk to a small constituency of seven seats or just a mohalla? How easily we start playing the games of a jugad politics?
Mr Do Nothing has nothing to lose. An accident, a fracas at the chauraha becomes a Chauri Chaura, and a lathi charge may become a Kargil. That's what he is able to see and visualize. So be it. Wish him well and move on. He is asking questions, because he has only a bagful of that. The answer providers to the nation must make a choice, whether to reply to an individual or keep helping this nation find answers to her problems. We shouldn't be dismissive of him. He has proved he can get 28 seats. he has every right, democratically to say what he wants to say and ask questions, from any one. Politely we must recognize this. But whether we should answer or say what he wants us to say, is for us to decide. if to question is his right, we too have a right to reply or ignore. We can't forced to be a part of his road show. This is not his constitutional right anyway!!
All he needs is to ensure his vehicle's rear window pane, glass, his muffler, his shoewear, the innocently maneuvered sincere sounding glib talk appears in the prime time bulletin. And we happily, enthusiastically oblige him. We think its very important for us to appear on TV chat shows that discuss fifteen boys vigorously stoning our office, tearing the Vajpayee posters, doing all that 'sacrilegious' acts and hence we must respond befittingly, teach them a lesson, discuss how the Gandhian principles of non-violence have been violated by these 'Naxals', have a trending campaign on social media, show them that how big and honest and truthful and principled and influential we are.
And they couldn't help laughing seeing how easily we got trapped by their jugad politics.
Every line we write about Mr Do Nothing, every tweet we do for them, every show we appear in, that discusses them and every statement so laboriously prepared we issue mocking at them, helps Mr Do Nothing and he eats an extra chapatti that day.
He has nothing to lose because he has nothing to gain. He is playing somebody else's game and his interventions are required where Congress fails to make an impact and intervene.
The brave hearts, who try to show that his cavalcade can be stopped, in fact play in the hands of the master of jugad politics.
As a democracy, we must ensure he says, if he wants, the worst, most abusive and strong worded things. Let him do that. None trusts him any more. He wants to be put up at par with Mr Modi, to be compared with him and be discussed as a national challenge to him. His biggest dream is to have Mr Modi issue a strong statement against him. He will feel fulfilled. Is there a need to oblige him?
What we fail to understand the biggest challenge today is to strengthen the booth level fortresses of the polling day. The door to door campaigning. The easy slogan shouting and the most illusory social media 'infantry' help none. It's a fight not for any individual or for any party, but a final chance to bring about a change India has been yearning for since decades. The enthusiastic one-up-man ship, bickering, small talk and lobbying for berths can wait a little while but the main battle for Somnath must not be lost.
Those who care for a greater and grander future of the nation must immediately buy a copy of KM Munshi's Jai Somnath. The strong, brave, courageous and great defenders of Somnath should not be let down by small, petty issues.
Our battle is a battle for the nation, a nation that stretches from Aruncahal to Kashmir and Andamans to Okha and Lakshdweep and Indira Gandhi Point. It's a pan India outlook, all inclusive and a long term vision of those who rest their case on a civilisational continuity of this land and her people, who consider this as not a road, power, school providing platform but a living Mother India in the words of Sri Aurobindo and Swami Vivekananda — remember that Bhawani Bharati concept. Its not a case of merely resisting stone peltors but to defend her borders and ensure prosperity and Param Vaibhav, the supreme glory for every citizen that will act as a soothing, brotherly power that respects equality for all neighbors and the world.
Every one of us may have minus points, but every one of us must try to correct, mend ways and move collectively like a caravan of small, less fortunate people with big dreams, humble in words, national in acts.
This dream has been made possible by the millions of workers who have sacrificed their lives, their career and their personal ambitions for the greater good of the nation. It's Dr Hedgewar's vision, since 1925 that has produced brilliant dedicated souls, that gave Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya, Nanaji Deshmukh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Kishenchand Advani and thousands of those whose names shall never appear in the Rashtrapati Bhawan's roll of Padma honors. This is the time for us to remember the likes of Yadavrao Joshis, HV Seshadris, Vakil sahibs, and those amidst us like Suryanarayan Raojis. Its their bliss, Tapodhan, and Punya.
If small schools in Haryana, or a Dhaba type roadside hotel in Coimbatore, show the BJP sign and a Modi picture — then it must mean more than an electoral symbolism.
They get people from all walks of life, in schools and in restaurants, who do not necessarily reflect BJP views. Still if such people, Indian citizens and voters feel emboldened enough to express their choice not caring whether all the visitors to their campus would approve of that, it means India wants a change and this yearning has been a result of collective effort of all those who may perhaps never ever be able to meet Mr Modi, get a plum posting, join the new government, or even be able to watch what happens inside the parliament.
But they have a dream.
The battle is not just for a new government, the issue at stake is whether India can achieve her destiny and be on her own or not. Do we deserve a better future and better set of leaders and greater implementers of a grand Indian dream or not?
Forget party or the individual, its India and her destiny that is at stake. We have to show that pluralism, the communal amity, the Hindu Muslim Christian togetherness can win. And the Vajpayee path of collective leadership and governance is proved right, once again.
Let that all-inclusive, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, India dream be not hurt by a group of stone pelters.
Work for a greater goal and be alarmed that the fight is not an easy one, the challenges are far more difficult than we seem to believe and let this time no power succeed to disturb us in our mission to protect Somnath. That's what it means to be the follower of the spirit of Sardar Patel.
